It won’t be popular amongst his competitors but Vince Friese isn’t for changing his aggressive ways as the WSX series gets ready to fire back into life today in Vancouver!
In an interview with WSX, Friese admits: “I’m probably a different person with the helmet on for sure, I’m competitive off the bike but I am not a killer off the bike like I am on the bike, for sure. A few people that get to know me see me in a different light, I am pretty mean when I get on the motorcycle.
“They all seem to still think they are going to beat me but I enjoy coming in and proving them wrong. When I first started out, I was a guy that barely made a main event and I have consistently got better for the 10-15 years now and, I think, a lot of people see me as that guy that could barely make a main event and they just don’t want to believe that I am better than them now.”
On being polarizing he stated: “The way I ride is going to bring that out in the fans, it is what it is. Do you want a guy to roll over or fight for every position? I am naturally that guy when I put the helmet on I am competitive, why would I not fight for every position and try my hardest. I know the riders, they don’t like it. They like to use me as a crutch or excuse if they have a bad night, like I said earlier, they don’t think I am as good as them so if I beat them, they like to find an excuse. It’s earned me a reputation but that doesn’t phase me at all.”
“I have made plenty of passes and not knocked people down, it’s only the ones that made contact that get the limelight.”
