450cc race results: AMA Nationals RD6 – Tomac wins at Southwick

In the opening race, Eli Tomac didn’t get the best of starts but proved to be too fast for the rest of the field in sandy conditions. The Yamaha rider was eighth on the opening lap but had no issues working his way to the front and dominating to further close the championship gap down to Chase Sexton who was solid in second.

Christian Craig passed Ken Roczen to hold the early lead before coming home an impressive third ahead of Ryan Dungey who had a small tip over at the start of the race.

Max Anstie passed the fading Roczen on the last lap to secure an impressive fifth position. Jason Anderson went down around the first corner before finishing eighth in a good recovery ride through the field.

The second race saw Ken Roczen hold the lead after taking another holeshot on his Factory HRC Honda machine but he had Aaron Plessinger and Eli Tomac for company in an intense battle during the first half of the moto. Tomac appeared comfortable and played a waiting game but made his move when the moto hit the half way mark – once he upped his pace he ran into the distance.

Plessinger looekd much more comfortable with his KTM machine and passed Roczen for second but Sexton was on the move and he was able to get back to second after a bad start to keep the red plate for another week but he now only has a point over Tomac – it couldn’t be any closer. With a 7-3 Plessinger was able to get on the podium which should be a big confidence boost heading into the rest of the season.

Max Anstie rode another good race and passed Jason Anderson for another fifth.
