The Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM team could be set to take the next step in their development, with the team expected to enter the MX2 World Championship in 2027.
Since entering the Grand Prix paddock in 2024, the team have established themselves as a competitive team in the EMX250 championship, working with a number of talented riders and helping develop some of the next generation.
The team initially entered the paddock with Husqvarna machinery before switching to KTM for the 2026 season. Now, as they prepare for their fourth season in the Grand Prix paddock, we understand that the team are planning to step up to the MX2 World Championship.
Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM set for MX2?
Over the past few seasons, Cat Moto Bauerschmidt Racing have worked with riders including Nico Greutmann, Lyonel Reichl, Liam Owens, Mads Fredsøe, Francesco Bellei and Byron Dennis, gaining valuable experience in the EMX250 championship.
With the team continuing to develop, it appears they now feel the time is right to take on the challenge of the MX2 World Championship.
However, it remains to be seen whether the team will commit to the full 2027 series, which is set to feature 20 rounds. The outfit are expected to contest the flyaway rounds at the beginning of the season, but their complete programme has yet to be confirmed.
The number of MX2 riders the team will field is also still unknown. At this stage, we understand they will have at least one rider, with an announcement expected soon.
EMX250 programme to continue
While the move to the MX2 World Championship would represent a significant step forward for Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM, the team are still expected to maintain a presence in the EMX250 championship.
The EMX250 programme will continue to play an important role in developing young talent and preparing riders for potential progression into the World Championship in the future.
Balancing both programmes would allow the team to build on the experience they have gained since entering the paddock while continuing to invest in the development of emerging riders.
More teams, more opportunities
An official announcement from Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM is still to be made and further details regarding their 2027 rider line-up and plans are still to be finalized.
However, the potential arrival of another team in the MX2 World Championship would be a welcome development, creating more opportunities for riders and adding further depth to the class.
We’ll bring you more news as soon as it is officially announced by the team.
