Official: Dylan Ferrandis announces his retirement from professional racing

Dylan Ferrandis has officially announced that he will retire from professional racing following this weekend’s final round of the SMX series in the United States, bringing the curtain down on an impressive career that has taken him from the MXGP paddock to the top of American motocross.

The Frenchman first made a name for himself in the MXGP paddock, where he established himself as one of the leading young talents in the MX2 World Championship. Ferrandis went on to win two MX2 Grand Prix overall victories before making the move across the Atlantic to pursue a career in the United States.

It proved to be a hugely successful move. Ferrandis went on to claim four major championships during his time racing in America, winning two 250cc Supercross titles, one 250cc AMA Pro Motocross Championship and a 450cc AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

His success in the 450 class saw him become one of the leading riders in the sport, adding another major championship to an already impressive résumé.

For 2026, Ferrandis took on a new challenge by joining Troy Lee Designs Factory Ducati Racing as the Italian manufacturer entered the American market with its new motocross programme. The Frenchman played an important role in developing the Ducati for both Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross competition throughout the season.

Now, after more than two decades of racing dirt bikes competitively, Ferrandis has decided that the time is right to call an end to his professional career. The final round of the SMX series this weekend will therefore mark the final professional race of Ferrandis’ career.

Announcing his decision on social media, Ferrandis reflected on his journey and his final race with TLD Factory Ducati Racing:

“This weekend’s race will be my last one as professional racer then I will retire from the sport… I have been riding dirt bike since I’m 3 years old all around the world and this life has been exactly what I wanted. It’s been a great year with all the team TLD Factory Ducati Racing and we will try to finish on high note and enjoy these last moments of racing together”.

Ferrandis leaves professional racing having achieved success on both sides of the Atlantic and with multiple American championships to his name.

This weekend, the Frenchman will get the opportunity to enjoy his final moments behind the gate before beginning the next chapter of his life away from professional racing.
