Vince Friese managed to get himself involved in the epic battle for the lead between Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence in San Diego. Eventual winner, Tomac, was not impressed!
“That was a frustrating part of the race,” said Eli in the press conference.
“I thought Jett was going to get me at one point, because I sat behind Vince for maybe half a lap. Of course, when you are behind a guy, you are anticipating where you think they are going to go and most of the time you have a pretty good sense of where they are going to go and that just didn’t happen at all”.
“After that supercross triple and the 90 and on-off there, there was a ton of track on the left side and that’s where I went and then he drifted over going through that lane. I thought I was hosed! Landing there, it was super close, it was wild! I thought I was going to give up the race because of that situation, it’s was so close there even though at the beginning of that there was a lot of track open for that not to happen.”
On his brilliant win that marked a remarkable 11th straight years of winning in the premier class, Eli commented:
“It is up there on the list for wins. It has been a while since I won a 20 minute main – I didn’t get one last year. It’s a big win for not to just win the triple crown three short sprints. This was a huge deal for me just coming back and proving I am in a better position and in better shape. And also, just regrouping from last week, putting myself in that position and tipping over in the third turn was so frustrating. It was nice to get it done all the way“.
Beast mode is back and Tomac is ready to fight for his third supercross title in a generational battle with Jett Lawrence, Chase Sexton and the rest of the contenders. 2025 could be a season for the ages!
