Ryan Hughes has given his view on the constant AMA v MXGP debate via his experience of working with Glenn Coldenhoff. With Hughes stating it is the versatility in extreme conditions is the only difference.
Hughes commented Gypsy Tales: “It’s not that the Europeans are faster than us, the way the Europeans are faster than the us is when the conditions are so tough we don’t have the skills to ride as fast as they do. When I worked for Glenn Coldenhoff, I was like, “is this normal?” He was like, “oh yeah! This is every day, if you don’t do it, you don’t ride.”
“We went to track zero degrees and it was snowing, three corners there was two foot of water, the sand was two foot deep and there was ten of the top GP guys out there doing motos.
“I saw that and I’m like there is no way one American would have been out there, an amateur or anything trying to make a pro career. What happens is we become domesticated here. If it rains here they cancel it, you are not setting riders up to be pro”.
