Top British riders set to descend on Mountain Quarter for Irish Championship

Mountain Quarter MX Track is set to welcome the Irish Championship on September 12-13, with a host of top British Championship riders expected to make the trip across the water for what promises to be a cracking weekend of racing.

The picturesque Mountain Quarter circuit hosted the Tommy Stewart Memorial last year, which attracted a strong field of both Irish and British riders. Josh Gilbert, Taylor Hammal, Josh Vail, Carlton Husband and Chris Mills were among the British Championship wildcards who lined up, while a number of Ireland’s leading riders, including Glenn McCormick, Jason Meara, Martin Barr and Stuart Edmonds, also contested the event.

The meeting created a fantastic buzz around the circuit and showcased just how popular the venue can be when it attracts a strong line-up of riders from both sides of the Irish Sea.

This year, however, Mountain Quarter MX Track will host a full round of the Irish Championship ran by the Knock Mcc club, with the event taking place across Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13.

Youth racing will take place on Saturday before the focus switches to the Pro riders on Sunday.

One rider already confirmed to return is Taylor Hammal, who will be looking to build on a dominant performance at the circuit last year. Hammal was in superb form at the Tommy Stewart Memorial, winning all three races, and will be back at Mountain Quarter this September to contest the Irish Championship.

Josh Gilbert will also be looking to return to the venue and put last year’s disappointment behind him. It was a day where very little went right for Gilbert, so he’ll be hoping for a much better weekend this time around.

And there could be plenty more big names joining them.

Talks are currently ongoing between the organiser and a number of top British Championship riders regarding competing at the event. While those names cannot be confirmed just yet, more announcements are expected in the coming weeks.

With a strong Irish Championship field, a number of leading British riders already committed and more potentially on the way, Mountain Quarter is shaping up for another memorable weekend.

So, save the date —September 12-13 — because this year’s Irish Championship visit to Mountain Quarter MX Track will be well worth a visit.

Mark Galloway:

“Myself and the Knock club are really looking forward to bringing the Irish Championship to Mountain Quarter this year. The atmosphere and support we had for the Tommy Stewart Memorial last year was fantastic. We have a star studded line up including the likes of Taylor Hammal and Josh Gilbert returning as well as our local top talents. We also have some former British race winners coming to the event – we will be announcing the rider line up prior to the event”.
