It was recently announced that Mathis Valin will be making the move up to the MX2 World Championship for the 2025 season after inking a deal to become a full factory Kawasaki rider. The French talent is leading the EMX250 championship with two rounds remaining and the BUD Kawasaki team will be hoping Valin can deliver a title before he departs at the end of the season.
With Valin on the move, the BUD Kawasaki team have been on the look out for a replacement rider and we understand they have looked to Australia. Sources tell us that Jake Cannon will be on the move to Europe in 2025. Cannon was racing Honda machinery this year in Australia winning the MX3 title which is an U19 championship and is highly rated.
Cannon has got experience racing in Europe in the past as he has contested Junior World Championship events in the past. In 2023, Cannon represented Australia in Romania and finished 4-4 in the 125cc class for fifth overall. Valin actually won the title that day and now Cannon could be set to follow in Valin’s footsteps in racing the EMX250 championship for BUD Racing.
There are already two Australian riders contesting the EMX250 series in the form of Liam Owens and Ryan Alexanderson. If both remain in the EMX250 series, Cannon will be the third Australian talent to contest the series.
With Mathis Valin, Valerio Lata and Cas Valk all moving up to contest the MX2 World Championship in 2025, new blood will be needed so Cannon will be a welcome addition alongside the talents moving up from the EMX125 series.
It remains to be seen what the future holds of Benjamin Garib and if he has a future with the BUD Kawasaki team – if not the team could be on the market to sign up a second new rider.
As usual more news as and when we get it.
