Results: MX2 world championship Portugal – Vialle wins!

Tom Vialle took a big win in moto one but he had to post his fastest lap of the race on the last lap to beat a flying Mikkel Haarup who also posted his fastest lap on the last lap in a bid to win his first ever moto!

The race started with a bang as Guadagnini crashed out of the lead and then Vialle made an early move on Geerts, nearly putting the Belgian down to take thrd. Geerts then crashed hard when he washed the front wheel on a watered track and the Belgian had to come from last. He eventually got back to ninth in a hard ride as De Wolf passed Conrad Mewse with a couple of laps to go to take third but it was a great ride for the Brit who showed what he could do with a good start.

Race two and Kevin Horgmo took the holeshot and led for the first few laps until the freight train of Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts proved just too much to hold off. Vialle had made an early frst lap move of Geerts but once they got 1 and 2, Geerts upped the pace, passed Vialle and pulled away to a very impressive win given the context of that first moto crash and points lose to Vialle. Geerts limited the damage and showed yet again how strong he is mentally.

Vialle held on for second even if he did have some pressure from a fantastic Horgmo and Haarup who backed his second place from race one with a fourth in race two and on the pace with Vialle again.

Overall it was Vialle with the win, Haarup on the podium again in second and Jago Geerts third.

Vialle said: “I had a difficult Staurday, I am happy to win the GP – I didn’t expect this last night. The second moto was mixed, Jago was riding good, he was pretty fast.”
