Results: Nashville supercross – Sexton on top and Lawrence clinches the 250 title

The drama started early in Nashville with Cooper Webb going down after a first lap battle with Eli Tomac in the heat and getting ran into by Adam Cianciarulo, Webb went to hospital for evaluation and did not take part in the rest of the night, giving Eli Tomac a big pressure release with only Chase Sexton now in play.

Tomac took the holeshot from Justin Hilk, who has been riding fantastic lately, but Chase Sexton found his way by after a couple of laps and started to chase Eli Tomac down as Barcia crashed hard out of third with a big endo.

At the halfway mark, Sexton made the pass with Tomac letting him go and settling for second. Ken Roczen made his way into third after Barcia’s crash, getting by Hill amidst the backmarkers pushing Hill off the track. Sexton ran away with the win lapping well into the top ten as Tomac smartly backed off to cruise to second with Roczen third.

Sexton said: “I just wanted to be consistent and hit my marks. I saw Eli out front and wanted to click my laps off and try to catch him. I feel like I’m making big strides, any win in this class means a lot. Just want to keep it rolling.”

Tomac said: “We launched out of the start there, I was trying to do what I can, i had a bobble in the whoops and took it a little bit easy. Chase was riding really good, I was just riding in my zone.”

After a global journey from Australia to MXGP to America, Hunter Lawrence has won his first professional 250 crown, wrapping up the 250 East title at Nashville with a controlled win after an out of control Jordon Smith went off the track, handing Lawrence the lead back and the chance to win his first supercross title in style.

An emotional Hunter, who only needed to finish 20th to take the title, said: “I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can’t say I dreamed of this as a kid, because I didn’t know this was possible. I’m choked up, it means the world.”
