Race results: MXGP World Championship RD5 – Herlings wins at Agueda

Race One: Jorge Prado like usual got the holeshot in the opening moto with Romain Febvre behind who kept it at a decent gap. Herlings made a few first lap passes to get into third ahead of Ruben Fernandez and looked content with third until three laps to go when he put the hammer down. He got to Febvre’s rear wheel on the final lap but just couldn’t make a move. Prado looked brilliant and in control at the front as he extends his championship points lead. Glenn Coldenhoff passed Jeremy Seewer for an impressive fourth. Maxime Renaux after the DNF in the qualifying race had a bad gate pick which meant a bad start and then he collided with Calvin Vlaanderen which saw him on the deck – he could only recover to a disappointing thirteenth.

Race Two: Jeffrey Herlings didn’t have any arm pump in the second moto and it showed. He charged to the front and never looked back after passing the impressive Ruben Fernandez who took a great second. Romain Febvre rode well on his KRT machine passing Seewer and Prado for third and second overall.  Prado didn’t get his usual holeshot and as a result didn’t ride with the same flow dropping to fifth before a big moment but he managed to save it only losing a position to Vlaanderen. Herlings now equals Stefan Everts 101 GP overall wins – what an achievement!
