Jorge Prado was chasing down Haiden Deegan when an engine failure, as per Ian Harrison in our interview below, cost Prado a potential third place and had a domino effect on his second moto result.
In the US you go to the gate based on your first moto score, not the qualifying time which put Prado on the outside gate in race two, Prado looked to be 30th or worse around turn two and came back to 13th, losing more points to his title rivals.
In one day Prado went from right in the title hunt to 41 points back and Jorge said; “It was a rough day at Hangtown. The issue in Moto 1 while running fourth place really cost us, which was especially true knowing my gate pick was going to end up being on the far outside for Moto 2. That wasn’t good for me, but we did what we could to salvage points, and all I can do is be my very best for the remainder of the rounds and see where we can end up overall.”
Meanwhile Ian Harrison told us about Jorge’s signing and impressive supercross season: “I think I’ve mentioned this a few times, but I wasn’t quite sure about Jorge, you know, and anyone really coming from Europe because I know it’s a steep learning curve and it’s different. And especially when you’ve raced a couple of years in the GP’S and you don’t step in to the 250 class first.
I think that’s a high bar to jump in there in the 450 supercross thing and make it through safely to get to race the outdoors you’re hoping that you can show your speed, technique and everything else. But Jorge did it. There’s one of our bosses in Europe, Robert Jonas, he’s always told me this kid can do it and that you have got to believe in him. He was right, he can do it.
I think when you’re that in tune with your bike, then when you make a mistake or when it’s something with the bike and that’s what really helped him in the works and the amount of laps and time he put in at the beginning of the season, I think that has really helped him get better and better until he got a good understanding.
I might’ve even mentioned this before. I think the last guy that I saw like this, that really got it in the beginning and got going was Ken Roczen.
