Jordon Smith has called for a rethink on the direction of AMA Pro Motocross track changes, saying he would prefer circuits to become slower and more technical rather than increasingly fast.
The Triumph Factory Racing rider enjoyed a solid outing at the Southwick National, finishing tenth overall in the 450MX class – just one position behind teammate Mikkel Haarup. While Smith was pleased with his performance, it was the layout of the famous Southwick circuit that caught his attention after organisers made changes to the track.
Smith feels that the modifications made at Southwick have made the circuit faster, and he believes a similar trend has been happening across the AMA Pro Motocross Championship in recent years. One of the biggest talking points was the removal of the iconic “tree turn”, a section that had been part of the track’s character for many years.
Taking to social media after the race, Smith shared his thoughts and invited fans to weigh in on the debate.
“Every track change that’s been made in motocross over the past few years makes the track way faster. Couldn’t believe they got rid of the tree turn?! I don’t know if it’s just me, but I would like to see the tracks slower and more technical. Thoughts from fans?”.
