The dream of seeing the world’s best motocross riders—Europe’s MXGP elite and America’s top AMA stars—go head-to-head more than once a year remains a hot topic in the sport. At the moment, fans must wait until the annual Motocross of Nations to witness such a showdown. However, according to Infront Moto Racing President Giuseppe Luongo, the ambition to bring MXGP back to the USA is very much alive and being actively pursued.

In an interview with MXLarge’s Geoff Meyer, Luongo addressed the ongoing discussions and long-term vision to expand the global reach of the MXGP World Championship.

“All Motocross fans dream to see MXGP riders and American riders confront each other and race together,” Luongo stated. “Unfortunately for the moment it’s only possible at the MXoN, but we are working hard to have an MXGP in USA one day to be able to see all these stars battle it out on the race track all together.”

Luongo emphasized that both sides of the Atlantic are aligned in this vision, and despite the logistical and contractual complexities, progress is being made.

“The goal for both sides of the Atlantic is to have an MXGP in USA, and we are all working hard on this,” he continued. “There are many details and hurdles that need to be overcome but I remain positive. It’s difficult to give a precise date, but it will happen and hopefully in the near future.”

Beyond the ambition to return to the United States, Luongo also highlighted the potential for future Motocross of Nations events in Assen, the Netherlands. The iconic venue is set to host the 2027 edition of the prestigious event, and depending on its success, more editions may follow.

“Yes, with Assen we have a contract for the 2027 MXoN. Clearly if we have the success which we are hoping for, we think it will be possible to see Assen with more MXoN events in the future.”

The conversation also touched on the broader globalization of the MXGP series. Luongo confirmed that negotiations are ongoing with several non-European nations as the championship looks to continue expanding its footprint.

“We are in negotiation with many non-European countries including Indonesia and Thailand, and sure in a close future we will see other countries returning to the MXGP Calendar.”

While there’s no concrete timeline for an American GP just yet, Luongo’s comments underline a determined effort to unite the world’s top talent under the MXGP umbrella on U.S. soil. For fans on both continents, the prospect of more transatlantic racing opportunities remains a thrilling one.
