After a terrible start and gating mid-pack, Jeffrey Herlings got onto the back of the four other world champions in the race, and, after passing Renaux, caught fire again late int he race passing Febvre and then Prado in quick succession – but Gajser had to big of a lead for the Dutchman to go any further than second with a couple of laps to go.
Herlings said: “Both times once I got to second Tim was gone. Man, I had the speed all day to win but it doesn’t bring me anything, you know? So, anyway, 2-2 on a track let’s say I don’t fancy so much, it’s mnot too bad. This track last year I struggled the most and now I felt my bike set-up was much better. The riding was good, I had good speed, I just couldn’t get out of the start like almost always. It is like it is, I am looking forward to Turkey and China those tracks inside gates should suit me a bit better, looking forward to them.”
