Swedish talent Isak Gifting could be set to remain with JK Yamaha for the 2027 MXGP World Championship season, which would see him continue with the team for a fourth consecutive year.
Gifting made the step up to the MXGP World Championship in 2024 and has been under the JK Yamaha awning ever since. However, the Swede endured a frustrating 2026 campaign after an injury forced him to miss the opening part of the season.
Since making his return to MXGP action at Foxhill, Gifting already shown top-ten pace, demonstrating that he still has the speed to compete against the world’s best.
JK Racing to continue running Yamaha machinery
There has been plenty of uncertainty surrounding Yamaha’s presence in the MXGP paddock following the Japanese manufacturer’s recent restructuring plans.
Yamaha confirmed that it would conclude its factory-supported MX2 World Championship programme, while the factory MXGP operation will move in-house to the Motorsport Research and Development facility in Gerno di Lesmo, Italy. The brand is also restructuring its EMX250 and EMX125 programmes.
However, there is some positive news, we understand that JK Racing will continue to run Yamaha machinery in 2027. The team has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Japanese manufacturer, so it would be encouraging to see that partnership set to continue despite the wider changes.
Gifting to remain with the team?
Rumours suggest that Gifting could stay with JK Yamaha for the 2027 season, which would mark his fourth season with the team contesting the MXGP World Championship.
The Swede is understood to have attracted interest from oversea teams, as well as ZXMOTO, making a potential deal to keep him with JK Yamaha an important move for the team and the manufacturer.
After showing promising speed since his return from injury, retaining Gifting would give the team continuity heading into next season while allowing the Swede to build on his experience in the premier class.
For now, a deal remains unconfirmed by both Yamaha and JK Racing, so this is one to keep an eye on as the 2027 rider market continues to develop.
Stay tuned for further updates.
