Race results: MX2 World Championship RD6 – Laengenfelder shines in Spain

Race One: Thibault Benistant grabbed the holeshot in the opening race which he needed after a tough weekend in Portugal. Simon Laengenfelder was hot on his heels and after Benistant made a mistake, was able to move into the lead and never looked back. It was total domination from the young German and took his second moto win of the year but despite having a lot of pace this year still hasn’t stood on the podium. Jago Geerts didn’t get a good start but rode a smart race to make moves on De Wolf and Benistant for second. Benistant, De Wolf and Adamo were locked in a battle for third but struggled to make passes. Coenen rode well for sixth but will want a better start to really run at the sharp end like he did in the qualifying race.

Race Two: It was on for the overall win as Laengenfelder and Geerts were 1-2 around the first corner. The young German determined to win only his second GP win pulled away at the front and never looked back – the best race of his career. Geerts had Adamo closing up on him mid race but was able to pull away again before a tip over on the last lap but did enough for second overall and more importantly extend his championship lead. Adamo ended up third which secured yet another podium – that’s his fourth of the season. De Wolf and Benistant were tied with Adamo in the overall standings but the second moto made the difference.
