South African rider Tristan Purdon and the Lexa MX team have officially parted company by mutual consent following a challenging opening phase to the 2026 season.
Coming into the year, Purdon made a significant switch in his career, moving away from the SC Sportshomes Husqvarna setup and onto Honda machinery with Lexa MX. The change brought a fresh opportunity and renewed focus on the MXGB British Motocross Championship, where expectations were high for the experienced front-runner.
However, the start of the campaign has not gone as planned for Purdon. Typically, a consistent contender around the top five in the British series, the South African has struggled to find his usual rhythm and competitiveness during the early rounds of the season.
As a result, both Purdon and Lexa MX have agreed to go their separate ways, with the split described as being in the best interest of both parties after a difficult run of form.
While his immediate future is still being finalised, there is optimism from the rider’s side that he will secure a new deal in time for the next round of the MXGB British Championship, which takes place this Sunday at Landrake.
On the team side, Lexa MX’s next move is yet to be confirmed, including whether they will bring in a replacement rider to continue their campaign in the MX1 class. The outfit has been a notable presence in recent British motocross seasons and previously fielded a line up of John Adamson and Josh Gilbert just last year. It would be nice to see them back in the MXGP paddock moving forward.
More updates are expected in the coming days as both parties finalise their next steps.
