Race One: Joe Brookes rode strong for the win to hold off a charge from Jamie Keith. Keith then went down and dropped to fourth with Charlie Heyman strong in second and Tommy Searle third until the last lap when Doensen took third as Keith made another mistake, finishing sixth. Billy Askew was fifth until he went down late and finished eighth.
Race Two: Jamie Keith took a great race win despite a crash from Gyan Doensen and Ben Mustoe but it was Charlie Heyman, who briefly led after Keith’s crash, who had the biggest smile after cruising in for fourth with no goggles to clinch his first ever adult British championship after a simply superb season. Gyan Doensen got himself into second to win the overall on the day.
Charlie said: “It was a crazy race, got a good start, Joe (Brookes) crashed. I was leading and ny footpeg didn’t feel right, the spring had gone from the rocks! The other footpeg did it two laps later so I couldn’t take my feet off the footpeg because I couldn’t have got them back on. Then I got passed and a rock shattered my goggles and then it started raining! I had to take the goggles off but made it happen, I heard guts close to me and thought just go by me!
“It feels really good, such a good year for me. It’s took so much work form everyone, the team, family, everyone. Neil puts so much time in, it shows me the path, I trust everyone so much and things work out. I won a lot of youth titles, it always felt good but this feels next level really. It’s so nice, I’ve worked for it for years, I’ve had ups and downs, injuries, people think it’s not the Charlie we used to see but now we are back on top. It’s such a nice feeling to be the best this year.”
