Young Irish rider Max Jones is taking a refreshing and ambitious approach to his motocross career by gaining experience beyond his home country at an early age. Despite his youth, Jones is already diving into the deep end by competing in rounds of the EMX65 championship.

The determined youngster has already lined up at two EMX65 events this season, racing in both the Netherlands (Delfzijl) and Denmark (Esbjerg), as he attempts to qualify for the final in Loket, which will run alongside the MXGP World Championship.

While the task is no easy feat, the experience Jones is picking up racing against some of Europe’s best young talent will be invaluable for his development. The hard work started in winter as he headed out to Spain to put in some training for two weeks and worked closely with Brian Jorgensen for one week.

In Denmark, Jones impressed by finishing eleventh in the opening moto, showing he has the pace to compete at this level and isn’t out of his depth.

Back on UK soil, Jones kicked off his Bridgestone Masters campaign in style, taking a win in the opening moto and securing second overall at the first round held at Culham. He will continue to race the remainder of the Bridgestone Masters series this season.

The young Irish youngster will head to Germany for the third round of EMX65 qualifying. A strong result there could see him secure a place in the semifinals, which are set to take place in Slovakia.

Despite his growing international schedule, Jones remains committed to his roots. Before heading to Germany, he’ll also line up at a round of the Irish Nora 555 Promotions Championship at Magilligan – further highlighting his passion and dedication to the sport at all levels.

Max Jones: The Delfzijl track was hard sand and felt easy to ride but was very one lined so passing was difficult and everyone was fast. The Danish track was super deep sand and much more technical but when the rain came it became about survival, a good start was crucial and being smart. I was definitely nervous before the racing in Holland but now I know where I can run, I’m excited to get stuck in. The weekends format is different than back home so it’s all learning and we’re enjoying the experience. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Phillip McCollough at ten55 coaching, CCM Dublin, Fox Europe and Trunk Floor for making all this possible.Â
