Florent Lambillon secures a fill in MX2 GP ride – will race a Suzuki

Young Belgian, Florent Lambillon had an opportunity to race selected rounds of the MX2 World Championship last year with the NR83 KTM team and he’s now got an opportunity to race some more rounds this year.

Julian Vander Auwera who’s under the Everest Racing Team awning has picked up an injury which has ruled him out for the rest of the season and the team have decided to give Lambillon an opportunity to race GP’s this year – the plan is to race Arco di Trento, Maggiora, Ernee, Teutschenthal, Loket, Lommel and St Jean d’Angely.

Lambillon will also race a Suzuki – it’ll be great to see a yellow machine back in the GP paddock as they’re been scarce the past few years!

We caught up with Lambillon about his opportunity to race selected GP’s and more…

On the opportunity to race GP’s…

I had a message from Julian Vander Auwera and he asked me if I want to do some GP’s. Of course, I want (laughs). He had a broken scaphoid in his wrist during the free practice in Mantova and he is out for the rest of the season.

On racing a Suzuki…

I will ride with my stuff. I will be on a full stock RMZ250, that will be difficult to ride against the factory bike but I will do my best. This is good motivation because I want to see what I can do with a stock bike. I’ve been riding a Suzuki since 2014 (my first season on a big bike) so I feel really comfortable on the bike. I also like the story of Suzuki, a lot of good riders rode a Suzuki during their career like James Stewart, Ricky Carmichael, Stefan Everts, Jeremy Mcgrath, Roger De Coster, Joël Robert and a lot of others. I will wear a Joel Robert replica Jersey during the first moto this weekend at Arco di Trento – he sadly passed away last year.

On racing some MX2 GP’s last year…

During all the GP’s last year, I was like a kid. It was a dream to be there and ride with the best guys of the world. The track at Arco is pretty fast with some big jumps, the opposite of a Belgian track. But it was insane to  ride on those amazing tracks in MX2 last year. I had so much fun and I’m so excited to be back. I think that I will be more relaxed, I know where I’m going and I know what it is all about, that can help me a lot.

On Expectations…

I don’t really have expectations, I want to be closer than last year and to have fun. Last year, I was around 10 secs slower than the first guys and the goal is to be under those 10 secs this year.

I want to thank the Everest Racing team, ART, GFButtpatch, MX2M, MxWan, my family and you guys for the nice story.
