Race One: It was a cracking opening race between the two championship contenders. It was Simon Längenfelder who got the better start but a couple of corners in Kay de Wolf showed his intent rubbing it in hot on the German. However, Längenfelder seen it coming and responded – it was Farres leading the way in the opening stages.
Längenfelder was able to get into the lead but De Wolf quickly passed Farres as well. The German started to pull away as he got the gap out to around three seconds but De Wolf then caught and put in an aggressive pass to get into the lead which saw the German hit the deck. De Wolf described it as a love tap after the moto but it got the job done in terms of the moto win. Längenfelder still came home in second so has a ten points advantage heading into race two!
Race Two: Well, that was not in the script. It started raining and in a blink of an eye it felt like we went from Darwin to Cozar at the start of the year. The track was under water!
At the start of the race when it was dry conditions, Kay de Wolf had passed Längenfelder who found himself on the ground yet again! This time it was more costly as he was seventh and then made more mistakes to drop outside the top ten.
Then in the brutal conditions, de Wolf who was second had bike issues and he couldn’t finish the race – or at least so we thought…
Then… the red flag came out – Husqvarna would have wanted that out a lap earlier! When they went back a lap, De Wolf got classified as fifth with Längenfelder sixth. Talk about drama!
But in the end Längenfelder is world champion, “Thanks, god”, he said! What a way to end the season in crazy conditions.
Coenen won the race with Valerio Lata finishing second to earn the podium!
