Haiden Deegan’s mechanic Brent Duffe spoke to Adam Cianciarulo and Justin Brayton on having to calm Haiden Deegan down when he came off the track following being taken out of moto two by Levi Kitchen and dropping to second place in the SMX title fight, potentially costing him $250,000 with Shimoda only needing second to clinch the title even if Deegan wins.
Brent said: “There’s a video floating around of, you know, when Haiden comes off and I’m the first one to him telling him ‘no, no, no, no, no,’ because he was hot, you know? I think every racer that’s had any kind of run in during a race, you know, you just spew the whole time and the whole race. You’re just mad about it. And when your heart rates up, you’re not calming down. So we knew he was going to be upset and, you know, Brian actually came on the headset towards the end of the race and said, ‘hey, when he comes off, he’s going to be hot. So you got to make sure you pull him down a little bit.’
“And, you know, I didn’t see the pass happen. So in my mind, I’m I’m upset too, but it’s nice to get that reminder from, you know, Brian said it to someone else on the team and said, make sure you calm them down. But that straightened me up a little bit too. Do not let this get out of control being that guy that he will listen to. I think he quickly realized like, yep, yep, I need to calm down. I need to take a breath.”
Meanwhile Kitchen told Cianciarulo and Brayton he expects some revenge this weekend! “Yeah, it didn’t really turn out obviously how I expected. There’s a lot of money on the line and like I’ve told a couple people I mean had I made it stick and get a podium, even if it’s second at Vegas overall, I mean that’s 250 grand in my pocket.
“I’ve kind of gotten to the point now, especially after the year I’ve had, I don’t really care what it takes. I’m just trying to financially do the best I can, and go out there and do the best I can really, I mean it’s just that’s kind of the way it went down.
“I’m alright with it honestly, I mean obviously I got one coming and if he wants to it’s all good, I completely understand. You know, now going into Vegas, he has a lot more to lose than I do.”
