Jeffrey Herlings says his KTM contract ends in 2025, and, while he thought that may be the end of his legendary career, the all-time record GP winner, told us he may race beyond that if he can avoid big injuries over the next two seasons!
Herlings told us:
“This might be my last contract but now, once itâs coming closer, because actually my contract finishes at the end of next year, Iâm like, âIâm still doing okay, Iâm still like a top five guy and actually I could be a top three guy when Iâm in a better shape.â
There’s so many brands attending the MXGP at some point like Triumph coming to MXGP, Ducati coming, then you have the Gas Gas, KTM, Kawasaki, Honda, Beta â thereâs so many brands coming. So Iâm like, yeah, like why why would I stop at the end of next year? Okay, definitely if I get big injuries again yeah, different story, but I mean for now, I donât know. I donât want to do it till Iâm 35 but Iâm not saying I want to stop already next year, I think itâs a bit early and as long as Iâm still within top three/top five, I should be okay.”
Could he race in America like Cairoli did?
“I donât know, for sure no supercross because I am too old to learn that, but yeah maybe Nationals but if I look at Lawrence, Iâm not even able to beat Prado yet – then I have no chance against Lawrence because heâs a next level guy! So as long as heâs racing Iâm not coming! (laughs).”
Let’s hope Herlings races as long as possible, the sport is always better when one of the greatest riders of all time (and maybe the fastest of all time) is on the track.
