Savatgy on being taken down by Friese!

Joey Savatgy went into the second main event of three in Melbourne tied on points with Ken Roczen, but, by the first turn, his world title aspirations were essentially over after being knocked down by Vince Friese!

Friese came in hot when he saw the gap and, while Roczen escaped the carnage to work his way up to win Savatgy, who had passed Roczen in turn on but done it clean, had to pick himself up off the ground to come back to tenth giving Roczen breathing room for the final moto, with Roczen taking third to wrap the title with Savatgy fourth.

A disappointed Joey, who also lost a 250 supercross crown by being knocked down on the final lap by Zach Osborne said: “It’s unfortunate for things to unfold the way they did. I knew I was at a disadvantage coming into this, I gave it my best, I needed better starts. I haven’t seen the video, so I don’t want to say too much (about the situation with Friese) but it’s unfortunate when most of us can race relatively okay except for one guy. Hats off to Ken, the guy is really good, I knew it was going to be hard to beat him coming into this.”

Friese had earlier got into it with wildcard rider Wills, who tried giving Friese a taste of his own medicine but didn’t quite put Friese down and had to suffer the consequences immediately getting blown over the berm!
