Interview: Jorge Prado talks San Diego Supercross

Interview: Jonathan McCready

After making his Kawasaki debut at Anaheim 1, Jorge Prado travelled to San Diego for the second round of the AMA Supercross series. Things didn’t go quite as well for the Spaniard as he had to qualify for the main event via the LCQ. It meant he had a bad gate pick and had to work his way through the pack before finishing twelfth.

We caught up with Prado to discuss his weekend and more…

GateDrop: Jorge, a very different night from Anaheim one. You had to come from the back a couple of times there but is that something you were able to learn from?

Prado: I think we always learn. it was definitely a different night, at Anaheim I got very good starts and good gate picks too. On this occasion going through the LCQ and stuff I didn’t have a good gate pick so it was hard to make a good start. I had to go through the pack, I think I had a good rhythm but you know with passing riders, I kind of lost my rhythm there at one point in the main. It’s always learning so not bad, not bad.

GateDrop: In the heat race, you were actually riding well but you went for a two-on-one pass and it didn’t quite work out and it sent you to the LCQ. Where you nervous on the gate for the LCQ?

Prado: I mean I wasn’t very nervous but always you know it goes through your head like okay… I make sure I have a good start and then put in good laps. I felt like it was a good practice and more laps on a race track so I think I see it always in the positive way. It wasn’t too bad, physically I’m feeling fine so it was just better, I was warm for the main event.

GateDrop: The pace was actually quite good, the result probably didn’t show it because you were having to come from the back and you had that crash but were you happy with your general pace?

Prado: Yeah, so I’m getting better and better every weekend so that’s good, I’m happy with that.

GateDrop: Did you make any changes to the bike in between Anaheim one and tonight?

Prado: We made some changes, yeah. We are always trying to improve so we did some changes, yeah.
