RXR Protect: Focusing on protection for 20 years

For more than twenty years, RXR, a French company founded in Normandy by David Schuller, has been dedicated to protecting athletes. As the topic is more relevant than ever, RXR took advantage of the recent Motocross of Nations to showcase its products and new releases.

Involved in several sports (motocross, cycling, skiing and horse riding) and endorsed by top athletes (today Zach, Mickaël and Lenny Pichon, Nicolas and Arnaud Aubin, in the past Dylan Ferrandis, Jo Shimoda among others), RXR is also referenced by the military troops and its protections are used by combat units in France, but also in the United States or Japan.

At RXR, since a long time, we have developed AIR SHOCK ABSORBER technology which uses air as a structural element of protection. We have created pressurized volumes, made up of different chambers, integrated around the rider without the use of electronics or gas cartridges.

Upon impact, these volumes deform and manage the energy. One of the major advantages of this approach is that we don’t need to wait for a system to deploy to have protective volume around the rider. The protection, which doesn’t contains any rigid materials, is already there; it works before, during, and after the crash. Our protectors, which we manufacture in our workshops, are designed to be reusable, without relying on a gas cartridge that needs replacing after each activation.

New projects

With the experience gained since its inception, RXR is currently developing two new projects.

The first, AIR SAFE, revisits an idea that RXR had already developed more than fifteen years ago with the IMPACT model. But RXR is now going much further, aiming to increase the volume of air available around the rider, using our latest innovations and 20 years of expertise. We’re not trying to make the protection ever more rigid; we want to create more space to absorb and distribute energy.

The second, Fou de Bassan, reinvents the helmet. The name refers to this bird capable of diving at very high speeds in the oceans, thanks in particular to an air pocket located in its skull. Our challenge was therefore to integrate AIR SHOCK ABSORBER technology directly into the helmet’s shell, and today, our tests show performance gains of around 20 to 25%! We will be able to integrate this new technology into different helmet brands, on an OEM basis, and our goal is to launch the first helmet incorporating this technology in 2027.

Tested and approved protections

The advent of inflatable protective systems marked a significant step forward, reflecting riders acceptance of larger and heavier equipment. We believe we have now found the right balance with our product : a high level of protection, a lightweight and comfortable design, a system that remains always active, and an affordable price point.

After more than twenty years of development, we know that inflatable protection can improve rider safety. Because our ambition is simple: to allow riders to push their performance further, while offering them the best possible solutions when things don’t go as planned.

Based on a panel of over 500 riders, followed for more than 7 years, our data shows a significant improvement in accident statistics.Yes, you get injured less often wearing an RXR PROTECT protective vest!
