Race One: Jeffrey Herlings and Kay de Wolf put on a sensational first moto with de Wolf leading for most of the moto aftee Herlings chinned himself on lap one behind leader Vialle allowing de Wolf into third. Herlings regrouped and both passed Vialle and set sail on a different level to the rest with Herlings finally making the pass stick with five minutes to go but then on the last lap Herlings bike stalled with three turns to go but Herlings restarted his Honda in time to seal the victory describing the last lap incident as a “small technical issue.”
Race Two: Jeffrey Herlings led immediately from the start but Kay de Wolf put himself into second quickly and the race was on immediately with de Wolf staying in the wheel tracks of Herlings. But Herlings pulled out a five second gap only for de Wolf to up the pace and close right back in on Herlings then crash with two laps to go just when the battle for the win looked like it would go to the checkered flag! Herlings took yet another win and is now within touching distance of his sixth world title. Tom Vialle took third overall after Gajser crashed a couple of laps after passing Vialle for third, getting up to finish eighth.
Glenn Coldenhoff took a brilliant fourth to take fifth overall in his last ever ever Grand Prix – what a ride and a different career!
Herlings said of the battle: “This was a challenge I didn’t have for quite a while! Kay was really good, at one point I gapped him five/six seconds but he cam back, man. I didn’t think he was physically that good but obviously going into the last lap he crashed and I could back it off for the last lap. Trust me, I had to go all thw way to the end (effort). Another 1-1-1 so super happy and also in the championship we have a big points gap now so looking forward to Turkey now.”
