Beta have now confirmed that Rick Elzinga picked up a knee injury and as a result won’t be contesting any pre-season races – he is trying everything to be back for the first round of the MXGP World Championship which heads to Argentina.
His team mates, Jago Geerts, Brando Rispoli and Alexis Fueri will be contesting the International Italian Championship which kicks off on the 1st of February.
MRT Beta posted the following update:
Alghero hosts the season opener with Geerts’ debut on the Beta MRT Racing team.
The 2026 Internazionali d’Italia Motocross season kicks off in Sardinia, where the Beta MRT Racing team has been present since the first week of January for pre-season testing. On Sunday, February 1st, the prestigious “Crossodromo del Lazzaretto” in Alghero will host the first round of the Internazionali d’Italia Motocross Championship, officially opening the season.
The Beta MRT Racing team will line up at the starting gate with its new riders: in the MX1 category, Jago Geerts will represent the team, making his racing debut behind the handlebars of a Beta. In MX2, the spotlight will be on the young Alexis Fueri and Brando Rispoli, ready to shine on the Sardinian track.
Unfortunately, Rick Elzinga will not be able to line up at the starting gate. The Dutch rider sustained a kneecap injury in his left knee following a crash during training, but is already doing everything he can to participate in the first round of the MXGP World Championship scheduled for Argentina.
Despite Elzinga’s absence, to whom we wish a speedy recovery and see him back on track soon, the Beta MRT Racing team is ready to open the season with the highest ambitions on the Alghero track.
