Jo Shimoda got off to a great start (in contrast to hitting the gate at A1) in Oakland to lead the main event early until a stall allowed Christian Craig to nip by and put Jo back into the battle for second.
Then, almost without warning, Shimoda got it wrong in the whoops and executed a front flip a freestyler would be proud of – fortunately Shimoda was uninjured and could get back in the race, with the Japanese rider coming back to seventh.
But two seventh places isn’t the start the talented and usually very smooth rider wanted to start his season:
