Video: Beyond the track with Ryan Dungey and his post-racing life

Daniel Blair sits down with Ryan Dungey to talk about his post-racing life and trying to find purpose after racing.

“It was wide open, that sport, it consumes your life,” said Ryan. “It takes over your thinking, your days, your training, if you aren’t training you are resting – constantly thinking about. When that stopped things went from 100 mph to nothing. And I needed that, I will the first two three, maybe six months, my mind needs to heal, my body needs to heal, I was tired trying to get out of that hole.

“It took me a while to understand this, it wasn’t so much I missed the adrenaline, I loved racing, I enjoyed what I did, I liked to work hard but I think the biggest frustrating for me was, I wasn’t being challenged anymore. There was nothing challenging me any more and when I didn’t have that I just feel really depleted, lacking purpose.”
