Thorpe gives update on Nicholls and Gilbert

Buildbase Honda boss, Dave Thorpe, says his MX2 charge Josh Gilbert is impressing as he puts in the work this off-season to get ready for another assault on the MX2 British title.

“He is currently away with Ryan now testing, and the testing is going really well. We have been out with Josh as fair bit and he is riding expectionally well so we are very optimistic about the season ahead,” commented Thorpe on the progress of Gilbert who has made improvements every year since joining the professional ranks and finished second in the series last season.

But it’s a different story for Jake Nicholls, who cruelly lost the British MX1 title last year after breaking his leg at a local event he was participating in and will miss the start of the season, but Thorpe says things have improved recently.

“Jake has made a lot of progress in the last three weeks, he is not going to make the beginning of the season, we have accepted that,” admitted Thorpe before adding, “For Jake it will be all about building blocks and getting the fun back into riding and I feel sure he will be back on the pace very, very quickly.”
