RUMOUR: Guillem Farres to make MX2 GP return in 2025?

The past two years, Guillem Farres has been racing in America. In 2022, he had the opportunity to go and race a couple of AMA Nationals under the Star Yamaha awning and the team were that impressed with him they decided to give him a ride.

This year, Farres swapped Yamaha for the Rockstar Husqvarna team but the Spaniard hasn’t got to show his true potential in America mostly due to injuries. It’s a real shame as he has speed and despite a lack of Supercross experience he was able to finish in the top ten of the few Supercross 250SX East coast rounds that he did race.

It’s thought that Farres didn’t have any good options to remain in America for the 2025 season and we understand that the Factory Triumph Racing team will sign up the Spaniard to bring him back to the GP paddock for the upcoming season.

With Mikkel Haarup aging out of the MX2 World Championship for 2025, it means that Triumph have been on the look out for a rider to partner Camden McLellan next year. Triumph have been linked and interested in other riders but doing a deal with a top MX2 GP rider is difficult as the majority of talent already have contracts for the 2025 season.

Farres would be a good option as he clearly has speed and talent. At 21 years old, Farres is eligible to race the MX2 World Championship for the 2025 and 2026 seasons so it’ll be interesting to see if he gets handed a two year contract. In 2027, Farres would need to enter the MXGP World Championship.

If the deal goes ahead, it’ll be a good opportunity for Farres of having a factory ride in MX2. The last time he raced the MX2 World Championship before heading to America he was racing under the Raths Motorsport KTM awning but that team have now closed their doors. Triumph will be a big step up and Farres will be working closely with Clement Desalle. The big thing for him is the need to remain injury free to show his true potential.

Triumph have done a good job during their first year in the paddock contesting the MX2 World Championship and will be hoping to add at least one MXGP rider in 2026 provided their development with the 450cc goes according to plan.
