Race results: WMX RD1 – Guillen wins in Riola

Race One: There was drama coming out of the gate as a few of the heavy hitters collided – Valk, Duncan and Cannon all got bad starts and had to come from the back. Nancy van de Ven had the holeshot then lost the front around turn one, then couldn’t re-join the race due to technical problems.

At the front it was all about Lotte van Drunen who was riding such tricky conditions with so much flow and confidence. She dominated and didn’t even one bit tired after the moto – what a special talent. Daniela Guillen is one to keep an eye on as she impressed finishing third, in hard pack she could have what it takes to win. Duncan came from way back to get up to third ahead of Shana van der Vlist. Valk had a crash coming up through the pack but salvaged ninth.

Race Two: In the second race, Nancy van de Ven took the holeshot and this time kept it on two wheels around the first corner. She had Spanish talent, Guillen for company and she made the move for the lead and despite it being conditions that don’t come natural to her was in superb form. She pulled away at the front to take an amazing win.

Van Drunen was way back in tenth on the opening lap but charged through the field, she got up to third and was on Van de Ven for second but just couldn’t find away past. Duncan showed her determination by passing Valk with two laps to go for fourth to secure a podium in the gnarly sand.
