Race results: AMA Supercross RD17 – Salt Lake City – Roczen champion!


Ken Roczen fulfilled his dream of becoming an AMA Supercross champion after a perfect execution of the most important race of his life in Salt Lake City!

Roczen didn’t have the best gate pick after crashing while chasing Hunter Lawerence for the lead in the heat race but he Roczen gated second right behind Lawerence in the main event and put the pass immediately on Lawrence to take charge!

Lawrence stayed with Roczen but Prado was on fire and caught the duo and put the pressure on Hunter with the top three nose to tail but then Lawrence went down and that left Roczen breathing room to cruise home for the win.

Roczen eased off so much dropped for first to fifth with two laps to go, to let Chase Sexton take the win as poorHunter Lawrence remounted in seventh and kept going just in case anything happened the German. But at 32 years old and all the injuries he suffered, Ken Roczen finally made his dream come true!

Hunter Lawerence stopped to congratulate Kenny to underline the respect and sportsmanship the Aussie has and Jorge Prado was more even more excited for Ken Roczen than Ken was on his win, animatingly congratulating the German superstar on his long-awaited Supercross title!

The inspirational Roczen, who couldn’t hold back the tears as Larry Brooks his mum and his wife congratulated him, said as the crowd chanted his name: “I was an emotional wreck today, I am exhausted physically and mentally. I have dreamed of this since I was a little kid, it’s testament that you never give up.”

250 E/W shootout: Cole Davies paid Haiden Deegan back for the hit last year to move Deegan out of his way and than hold on for the win after Deegan went to return the favour but crashed trying to put Davies in his place!

Deegan then crashed again to end his hopes of the win as he tried to charge back up to Davies as the Kiwi put the world on notice that he is the next big thing in Supercross once he moves to the 450 class which could be as soon as 2028.

Deegan was a good sport at the end as was even smiling as he exited the track and laughing about the race with his mechanic!

Davies said: “That was a great race, we made it happen the pressure was off. It was fun racing like that cat and mouse. I learnt from last year not to let that happen again!”

A smiling Deegan said: “I have to give it to Cole, that was a dogfight, that was awesome!”
