Jeremy Seewer on his future: “As it stands, there’s no solution left in MXGP”

Jeremy Seewer has opened up about his future, admitting that he currently has no clear option to remain in the MXGP World Championship for the 2027 season, meaning his full-time Grand Prix career could be coming to an end.

The experienced Swiss rider endured a challenging 2026 campaign, initially starting the season with Ducati before parting ways with the Italian manufacturer and finishing the year with Dutch-based Van Venrooy KTM. Seewer appeared to find a much better feeling on the KTM, and at one stage, it looked like a deal could be possible for him to remain with the team for 2027.

However, that possibility now appears to be off the table. Van Venrooy KTM have already confirmed their rider line-up for next season, with the team set to focus on the MX2 World Championship with Karlis Reisulis and Byron Dennis. As a result, there is no place for Seewer or an MXGP programme within the team.

No clear MXGP options for 2027

Speaking to Moto.ch about his situation, Seewer admitted that a return to KTM is unlikely and that the current rider market has left him with very few possibilities in the premier class.

“It’s almost certainly not going to be KTM. As it stands, there’s no solution left in MXGP. We’re checking out a few options, but the rider market in MXGP has been pretty much destroyed by now. The development in MXGP isn’t healthy: there are still about five riders who earn good money, who have a fair salary, as it should be. But in sixth or seventh place, there’s already nothing. I myself was lucky enough to be on the winning side for years. But I’m slowly reaching a point where, given the way things are developing, it doesn’t make much sense anymore”, Seewer told moto.ch.

Seewer looking overseas

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his MXGP future, Seewer has made it clear that he isn’t ready to hang up his boots just yet. The 32-year-old is determined to continue racing and has options that could see him move away from the MXGP scene, with Brazil and America both possibilities.

With those championships not getting underway until the spring, Seewer still has time to make a decision and find a suitable opportunity for 2027.

“I will continue, that’s for sure. The championships there (Brazil or USA) don’t start until April or May. So we still have time. I’m relaxed. I hope we can find a solution by the end of the month so I have a goal in mind again. Of course, I want to ride a bike that works and not start yet another new project”, concluded Seewer.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it looks increasingly unlikely that we’ll see Seewer lining up in the MXGP World Championship next season. After many years competing at the highest level, the former Grand Prix winner could be set for a new chapter in his career, with a move to either Brazil or the United States potentially on the cards.
