International Tampere Supercross will be held for the tenth time in Finland this weekend. The Finn Harri Kullas, who finished 13th in the American SMX series in his rookie season, is a multiple winner in Tampere, where he will be challenged for the Tampere Dominator title among others Josh Hill, Cade Clason and Jorge Zarazoga.
Tampere Supercross, Finland’s only indoor competition of supercross, will be renewed in honor of its 10th edition on Friday and Saturday 8th to 9th November. The event is going to be held inside the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Center in one of the biggest cities in Finland, Tampere, located some two hours drive northwest from the capital Helsinki. There will once again be fierce fight for fame and honor in the international SX1 class and in the Finnish riders’ SX2 class. At the same time and location, it is possible to admire the wide range of Offroad Expo, the largest offroad motorcycle trade fair in the Nordic countries. Several dozen exhibitors will participate the Offroad Expo, and the country’s most significant motocross, enduro, moped, riding equipment and accessories importers and operators will be participating. Electric bicycles are also on display at the exhibition.
– Tampere Supercross was organized for the first time in 2012, and last year the event made a very successful comeback after the covid years. Supercross and Offroad Expo have clearly been in demand and they have always functioned as the closing ceremony of the Finnish motocross season, Tampere Supercross & Offroad Expo event producer and owner of the Finnish offroad magazine Xracing Jani Hovi says excitedly.
– We are renewing the competition format for this year and we’ll have three finals every night. There will be new types of intermediate starts and more prize money will be distributed. In the SX2 class of Finnish racers, there are more places on the start gate, when instead of the previous 12 riders, there is going to be 15 riders on the track at the same time. It brings more sizzle and battle. Finnish and foreign riders also measure each other in new intermediate starts, of which Superpole is a fierce time trial battle and Elimination serves as an intense man-against-man playoff.
Next Tampere Dominator
Over the years, Harri Kullas and the Americans Weston Peick and Alex Ray have been able to enjoy the prestigious Tampere Dominator title of Supercross winner. Kullas and Ray are racing this time as well. They will have to deal with Josh Hill, who has won Monster Energy Supercross main event and is ready to win in Tampere also. The American will compete with an electric bike Stark Varg, just like the Spaniard Jorge Zaragoza, who made an impression last year in Tampere. Also from US, Cade Clason has been 2nd and 3th in Tampere, but this year he wants to win. From the international list there will also be Tristan Lane (USA), Ludovic Macler (France), Joan Cros (Spain), Adam Chatfield (GBR), Jake Preston (GBR) and Andre Högberg (Sweden) racing in Tampere.
In front of the home crowd is Jere Haavisto who is multiple Finnish champion in motocross and who also competes in MXGP. He also won European Championship silver in EMXOpen class last Summer. Matias Vesterinen is a MX1 Finnish Championship silver medalist from this year. Then on the lineup is also Rene ”ISO9” Rannikko who has made himself a reputation beside motocross field but also on reality TV and as a singer in Finland. MX1 Finnish Championship level rider is also Tim Blomqvist.
Tampere Supercross and Offroad Expo will be held at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Center on 8th to 9th November 2024. The doors open on Friday at 2 p.m. and on Saturday at 12 p.m. local time (CET+1). Offroad Expo is free for visitors, but you should be careful when purchasing Tampere Supercross tickets, as the tickets have been sold out several times.
Local motocross club Tampereen Motocross is the host club of the event.
