Martin Barr reflects on his MX Nationals campaign and reveals he’s no ride for 2021

The MX National UK team recently caught up with BRT KTM rider, manger and new dad Martin Barr and talked through all things 2020 and what’s to come for 2021.

Barr had the opportunity to run his own team this year but thanks to COVID-19 it looks like he’s lost this backing from KTM due to budget cuts which is a real shame. Hopefully he can get a good ride before the start of the season because this season he should how competitive he can be on the 450cc.

MX Nationals: What a year it’s been for you! Finishing the year with a moto win, and the overall at FatCat to having twins, talk us through your year…

Barr: Yeah, it’s been a pretty crazy year to say the least, with running my own team BRT KTM. It’s took a lot of work to get things up and running as well as getting all my riding and training in but I really enjoyed it! With riding in the Pro Lites Arenacross tour and making it into the super final against some of the best riders in the world to winning the final round of the Pro MXx1 Mx Nationals with the best field of riders I’ve seen in the UK in 6/7 years and finishing 2nd in the championship it really was a decent year and showed everyone that I still have it! Then for my wife Rachael giving birth to our beautiful twins it really was the icing on the cake and a feeling I can’t put into words but we are both buzzing!

MX Nationals: For 2020 you did things on your own, how’s it been contending with the bigger teams. With your results this season it looks like it’s working!

Barr: It was tough at times I’m not going to lie, but I’m never one to back down! I worked my ass off to get it all up and running with a lot of great sponsors behind me which I can’t thank them enough! I have really good people around me which is a big bit of the puzzle and we all get on with the job in hand! As a small privateer team and to be out batting and beating the bigger teams it gave me a lot of satisfaction as a rider and team manager!

MX Nationals: What’s your plans for 2021? We hope to see you back and fighting for the MX1 title…

Barr: I’ve no plans at the moment unfortunately which is very frustrating after having a good 2020! with the way the world is at the moment there is a lot of cut backs and unfortunately, I’ve already felt that with having lost my support from KTM! I’m really wanting to continue on with BRT as I feel I can really fight for that MX1 title in 2021 so let’s hope something falls into place soon so I’ll be back on the start line.
