De Wolf, Coldenhoff and Vlaanderen on a disappointing MXoN

Despite their best efforts, Dutch didn’t have the weekend they wanted at Red Bud with Glenn Coldenhoff not able to replicate his form of four years ago, saying he didn’t have the feeling he wanted, along with crashes going against him.

Kay de Wolf cased the big triple on Saturday and didn’t look quite on his A game on a rapid track but did turn it around to show his real speed and talent in moto one on Sunday finishing third in MX2 but he was on the same pace as Lawrence and Cooper – even catching the American slightly in the second half of the race. Race two though didn’t go to plan with two crashes and no chance of running with Lawrence or Cooper.

Calvin Vlaanderen had a solid day with sixth overall in the Open class, but the magic of 2018 wasn’t quite there for the orange army and the loss of Jeffrey Herlings was palpable. You have to wonder what he was thinking when he saw Guadagnini, Renaux and Geerts at the front with the Americans, knowing the speed he has in his locker and the scores he could have put on the board for the Dutch.

Glenn Coldenhoff: I didn’t have the best feeling this weekend, although it did get a bit better. I had wheel spin off the gate and then crashed on the first lap, so I had to start from dead last. I got back to 13th. In the second race, I messed up the start again, and then I got landed on by another rider and crashed. The bike was completely bent, and I could not continue. It’s a shame to end the season like this, but I am happy to go home fit and healthy.

Kay de Wolf: It was a tough weekend, to be honest. I had to throw my goggles early in the first moto, so I tried to avoid the roost. I survived and got tenth, which was quite good. I was around twelfth in the second moto and hit someone’s rear wheel, which just sent me off the track. It took a while to get up and then I was riding well, but a rider crashed after pit lane and slammed me off the bike.

Calvin Vlaanderen: We fought hard for our country today! Unfortunately we all had some difficulties, I finished P5 overall in the open class and Netherlands finished P7. Proud of the whole team! We’ll be back for more next year.
