Jeffrey Herlings who knows more than anyone what it is like to lose a world title (or five) due to injury had some nice words for the 19 year Belgian who was forced to pull out of all three motos at Foxhill due to a leg injury after his qualifying race crash.
An empathetic Herlings, despite his perfect 1-1 day in Foxhill to bring him to within 11 points of championship leader, Lucas Coenen, said: “I don’t like to catch 50 points in this way, my thoughts go out to Lucas. Even though we are in competition, you don’t want to catch up points this way. It’s kind of a shame. I would prefer to have his bike breaking than to have anything with his health. I am feeling sorry for you, bud, I hope you are in Loket or back healthy as quick as possible, and hope to have many more good battles.”
“But going back to my day yeah, I am super pumped about my riding, a little gift from above I think this one, 1-1, two holeshots, it couldn’t come at a better time from a personal point of view and looking forward to Loket, seven to go.”
