After a great few weeks in America that showed hos speed and talent, the reality of a brutal sport hit the Norwegian hard in his return to MXGP as Tondel ended up with a broken leg in the qualifying race, when another rider jumped into him.
Tondel said: “After a great start of the qualifying race, I was in 6th position when I had a small tip over. I was stuck for a while, and got back up in the back of the field. My riding was super strong, and I quickly came back to 18th position. Just after passing another rider he made a dangerous move and jumped straight onto my right side. It was completely out of my control and I’m super bummed to be out when I was feeling so good. After being taken with the ambulance to the hospital they unfortunately found a fracture in my right leg, and I also had to get 20 stitches in my arms. We are now on the way to Belgium for further evaluation. I’m not sure how long I will be out, but I will provide an update as soon as I know more. Thankyou to the team, all sponsors & family + a big thankyou to @azravermeeren10 for being by my side and now driving 8 h back to Belgium.”
