With the track at it’s most brutal, it was a fantastic MXGP qualifying race.
It was Ruben Fernandez who grabbed the holeshot but Tim Gajser and Lucas Coenen were on the move as the French riders had a total nightmare. Renaux had a terrible start and when he was in tenth looking to move forward his bike stopped. Febvre then had a rear tire problem which meant he needed a pitstop.
Gajser got into the lead but Coenen was following and with two laps to go was right on his rear wheel. He just ran out of time but it was a superb race. Fernandez rode great to come home in third over Glenn Coldenhoff in fourth.
Kevin Horgmo held off Andrea Bonacorsi for fifth. Van de Mososdijk and Geerts had nice rides for eighth and ninth – it’s nice to see them get back to form.
Febvre ended up twentieth with Herlings twenty-second in his first moto of the season.
