Breaking down the numbers from the 2026 MX2 World Championship

After analysing the statistics from the MXGP World Championship, this week we turn our attention to the MX2 World Championship, which delivered some superb racing and a fantastic championship battle throughout the 2026 season.

From Guillem Farres having the season of his life on the Triumph to Sacha Coenen’s impressive starts and the consistency of Camden McLellan, there were plenty of interesting numbers to look back on. Let’s take a closer look at the key statistics from the MX2 World Championship.

MX2 overall wins

While the MXGP World Championship had just three different overall winners, MX2 offered a little more variety, with five riders taking GP overall victories throughout the season.

Guillem Farres enjoyed a remarkable campaign, claiming six GP overall victories despite never having won an MX2 GP overall before this year. The Spaniard finished one ahead of his Triumph teammate, Camden McLellan, who secured five overall wins as the British manufacturer enjoyed a season to remember.

With McLellan and Farres combining for eleven GP overall victories, it was an outstanding achievement for Triumph in what proved to be a hugely successful year for the team going 1-2 in the championship.

Sacha Coenen was another rider to enjoy plenty of success, taking four overall victories, while Simon Längenfelder claimed three, all of which came within the opening four rounds of the championship.

Mathis Valin also made his mark, securing one overall victory for Kawasaki. It was a significant result for the Japanese manufacturer, securing their first MX2 GP overall win since Dylan Ferrandis back in 2016.

Camden McLellan  5
Sacha Coenen  4
Simon Längenfelder 3

MX2 race wins

When it comes to individual race victories, Farres was comfortably out in front, taking fourteen race wins throughout the season.

Sacha Coenen finished second on the list with eight victories, while McLellan was close behind with seven, underlining the strength of the Triumph pairing across the campaign.

Six different riders managed to win an MX2 race in 2026, highlighting the depth of talent in the class. Interestingly, Liam Everts was the only rider among those six winners who failed to secure an overall GP victory during the season.

Despite that, the Belgian still managed to put together some impressive performances and proved he had the speed to fight at the front, even if he couldn’t quite convert those results into an overall victory.

MX2 overall podiums

Consistency is often just as important as outright speed in a championship battle, and the GP podium statistics provide an interesting insight into the performances of the leading riders.

Farres and McLellan both enjoyed 13 GP podium finishes, meaning the Triumph teammates stood on the podium the same number of times throughout the season. While Farres ultimately came out on top in terms of overall victories, McLellan can be pleased with the consistency he demonstrated across the campaign.

The pair were well ahead of the next riders on the list, with Simon Längenfelder and Sacha Coenen both recording eight podium finishes apiece.

After a difficult 2025, it was an improvement for Yamaha, as both Reisulis brothers secured their first MX2 GP podiums during the season. Janis Reisulis reached the podium on three occasions in his rookie season, while his brother Karlis managed it once, providing further evidence of the young talents emerging in the class. Sadly, Yamaha have concluded their support for the MX2 World Championship which is a real shame.

Camden McLellan 13
Guillem Farres 13
Simon Längenfelder 8
Sacha Coenen 8
Liam Everts 7
Mathis Valin  4

MX2 laps led

Farres once again dominated the statistics, leading an impressive 243 laps throughout the season. That figure highlights not only how regularly the Spaniard managed to get himself into the lead but also his ability to maintain that position once out in front.

Coenen was the next closest rider, leading 182 laps. Given the Belgian’s reputation for explosive starts and his ability to put himself in contention from the opening moments of a race, it is hardly surprising to see him so high on the list.

One particularly interesting statistic comes from Everts, who led 57 laps despite failing to win an overall GP this season. Remarkably, that was more than McLellan, who led 53 laps despite securing five overall victories.

It raises an interesting question: just how much more could McLellan have achieved if he had been able to improve his starts? An area to improve for 2027!

MX2 laps led  Total
Guillem Farres 243
Sacha Coenen 182
Simon Längenfelder 79
Liam Everts 57
Camden McLellan 53
Janis Reisulis  38
Mathis Valin  22

MX2 Qualifying race wins

Coenen’s strength off the start and impressive sprint pace made him a formidable competitor in the qualifying races, so it comes as little surprise that he topped this particular statistic.

The Belgian’s ability to get out front quickly and maintain a strong pace over the shorter distance made him particularly effective on Saturdays, allowing him to collect more qualifying race victories than any other rider.

Längenfelder also enjoyed plenty of success in the qualifying races, winning four throughout the season, while the Triumph teammates, Farres and McLellan, were tied on three victories apiece.

Valin added two qualifying race wins to his tally as he continues to gain experience and establish himself among the leading MX2 riders.

A season to remember in MX2

The 2026 MX2 World Championship delivered plenty of talking points, with Farres securing his first world title, Triumph establishing itself as a major force in the class and several young riders making their presence felt.

Farres’ numbers stand out in particular, with six overall victories, fourteen race wins and 243 laps led highlighting just how impressive his campaign was. However, Coenen’s qualifying race dominance, McLellan’s consistency and the performances of riders such as Everts and Valin show that there was much more to the story than the overall championship standings alone.

With so much young talent continuing to develop, the MX2 class looks set to remain one of the most competitive and entertaining categories in motocross.
