Rumour: Jago Geerts makes last minute decision to try and race German GP?

It was only yesterday that Yamaha’s official MXGP preview for this weekend revealed that Jago Geerts would be out for the ninth round of the MX2 World Championship. However, the rumour coming from Germany today is that the Belgian will line up this weekend.

Credit to Motoverte.com who were first with the news and sources earlier today told us the same and that Geerts will try to race this weekend if granted start permission by the FIM doctor. We believe he has now been given the green light and his bike went through technical control so he’ll take to the line this weekend in a bid to save his MX2 World Championship title hopes.

After fracturing his left wrist just three weeks ago, it’s not going to be easy for Geerts and he’ll likely be in a lot of pain but after missing Latvia, he’s 48 points off the championship lead. If he was to miss Germany this weekend he could be over 100 points behind before returning in Indonesia.

No one can question just how much Geerts wants to win this MX2 World Championship in what is his final chance before he makes the move up to the MXGP World Championship in 2024.

Rick Elzinga who has also missed the past couple of MX2 GP’s will also return to action for the Factory Yamaha team this weekend.

UPDATE: Yamaha have now confirmed the news, here.
