With Yamaha not having the greatest of seasons in the MXGP paddock mainly due to injuries, we believe they have looked to America for a fill in rider.

Gavin Towers has been a Star Yamaha rider within the amateur setup in America as well as the Supercross futures series in which he is a consistent top three rider. However, Towers hinted after the final SX futures race that he has left Star Yamaha.

“P3 yesterday for the final futures race of the year. I learned a lot at each race and I was happy with my progression. Ready to see what the future holds from here on out”, Towers posted on social media.

We believe that Towers will fly to France tomorrow (the 23rd of May) and the plan at the moment is to race the next two rounds of the EMX250 championships.

The next two rounds of the EMX250 championships are heading to Germany (Teutschenthal) and Latvia (Kegums) so two very different kind of tracks.

With Janis Reisulis being out for the rest of the season, we understand that Towers will be under the VRT awning for the next two rounds of the EMX250 series who run the official Yamaha EMX250 setup. He’ll be under the awning alongside Karlis Reisulis and Ivano van Erp.

After Latvia a decision will then be made regarding the future if he stays in Europe for the rest of the season and if he impresses, stepping up to the MX2 World Championship hasn’t been ruled out at this stage.

We’ll bring you the official news as and when it is available.
