In the first MX1 moto of the year at Riola, Jorgo Prado took the holeshot and never looked back as he cruised home to victory. Romain Febvre kept Prado in his sight for the first five minutes before the Spaniard asserted his authority on the race and opening up a comfortable gap.
Febvre who looked comfortable in second then stalled the bike which dropped him down to fourth but after that the KRT rider struggled with arm pump so decided to take no risk and came home in sixth.
Making his Factory Yamaha debut, Glenn Coldenhoff finished a strong second with Thomas Kjer Olsen rounding off the podium – the Dane looked very comfortable on the 450cc despite it being his first MX1 race.
Van Horebeek and the Beta took a strong fourth which was a very solid debut – a great starting point for the Belgian and his new team.
Olsen isn’t the only MXGP rookie as Alvin Ostlund was also in action and was very strong in fifth on his JK Racing Yamaha.
The top twenty MX1 riders will be in action at the Superfinal later this evening.
