Race results: MXGP World Championship RD9 – Montevarchi – Herlings wins

Race One: It was Jeffrey Herlings who grabbed the holeshot – he was side by side with his team mate, Tom Vialle but Herlings made sure he was leading after the first turn.

Meanwhile, Romain Febvre and Lucas Coenen were buried outside the top fifteen.

Coenen was charging through the pack and riding brilliant despite the conditions being rock hard. On the last lap Coenen was on Renaux who was catching Herlings. In the end that’s the way it stayed – Renaux battled very hard to keep Coenen behind him.

Calvin Vlaanderen had a great race for Ducati finishing fourth with Tom Vialle rounding out the top five.

Romain Febvre got back to sixth getting around Andrea Adamo.

Race Two: Tim Gajser rode a superb race in a great battle with Jeffrey Herlings and Lucas Coenen in the first ten minutes – but then the Slovenian pulled away to take a great race win.

The first lap Coenen was ahead of Herlings but the Honda man was very aggressive – the most aggressive he’s been on lap one for a while and actually passed Coenen twice after a mistake. In the end he couldn’t pass Gajser and finished second to bring home an overall win – the 116th of his career, remarkable.

Renaux didn’t ride as well in race two but a sixth was enough to round off the podium.
