Race results: MX2 World Championship RD11 – Germany – Benistant wins his first GP

The opening MX2 moto was a showdown between Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts yet again. It was Vialle who had the early lead with Geerts behind his team mate, Thibault Benistant. After Geerts finally passed his team mate it didn’t take him long to catch Vialle and then the pair upped the intensity around a slick and tricky race track.

There wasn’t much to split the pair going into the final lap and Vialle made a slight mistake but Geerts couldn’t make a move stick as Vialle responded well to hold onto a big win. Yet again the pair produced some fantastic racing.

Mikkel Haarup rode well to come home in fourth after passing the impressive Jan Pancer who is enjoying the slick hard pack conditions. Kevin Horgmo was using some nice lines and passed Andrea Adamo for sixth.

There was drama in the second moto as Thibault Benistant was aggressive on the opening lapp passing Tom Vialle and then started to pull away at the front of the field. However, the drama happened ten minutes into the race as Vialle had a mechanical problem which ended his race!

Geerts then looked to settle for second with Benistant riding sublime in the techanical conditions to take his first GP overall win in style – if he can maintain this speed and keep improving he’s a future MX2 championship contender.

Haarup rode well to finish third and claim his fourth podium of the season on the DRT Kawasaki.

Jago Geerts now leads the MX2 championship due to Vialle’s bad luck but the pair are only seperated by eight points – it’s close!
