Race results: EMX250 RD5 – Ernee – Elzinga wins

The opening EMX250 moto was action packed to say the least with a number of different leaders but there were plenty of crashes. Mike Gwerder held the early lead but crashed which saw Lucas Coenen at the front. The Belgian then crashed himself with Cornelius Toendel taking over the lead and he pulled away from the rest of the pack.

Toendel out of nowhere took a massive crash but managed to pick it up still in the lead with Yago Martinez behind him. But then Toendel took another crash, Martinez then took over the lead and the Spaniard kept it on two wheels as the rain started to fall for an emotional race win. Rick Elzinga will be happy to come home in second with Toendel dropping down the order to ninth.

In the second moto it was the Fantic’s that were fast out of the gate with Håkon Østerhagen ahead of his team mate, Cornelius Toendel but it didn’t take the latter to get himself into the lead. Quickly following through was Lucas Coenen and Rick Elzinga in what shaped up to be an exciting three way battle for the lead.

With three laps to go Elzinga dropped back with Coenen charging hard to make a move but just couldn’t make a pass stick on Toendel who held onto the race win.

Yago Martinez didn’t ride as good in moto two but coming home in tenth he still secured a podium – his first in the EMX250 classes.

Elzinga ended up with the overall win and he gets the championship red plate back but there’s only one point in it – it couldn’t be any closer!
