Thibault Benistant said the first round in Argentina was maybe the worst performance of his career, but he turned things around immediately at round two, winning the qualifying race in the ruts of Cozar, Spain.
Poleman, Mathis Valin, took the holeshot and tried to pull away immediately on lap one until he washed the front wheel pushing too hard on a freshly groomed and slick off camber.
Benistant inherited the lead and checked out with Coenen passing Adamo for second and then Everts passing Adamo late for third after the Italian got parked behind a stricken backmarker in the ruts. Guillem Farres was holding off De Wolf with two laps to go until Farres went down and De Wolf claimed a solid fifth.
Coenen’s second place means he will have the red plate for tomorrow – championship contender?
